Still Safe and Snug in Rio Dulce, Guatemala-July 2000
After leaving Honduras, we took our time and anchored in a few different bays on the way to Rio Dulce. This was going to be our 'hurricane hold' for the season. Getting into the Rio Dulce was tricky because it is protected by a 6 foot deep sand bar. So we waited for the highest tide of the month and glided over the bar with ease. We anchored that night outside Livingston, Guatemala.
The next morning we started up the beautiful Rio Dulce with its tall limestone cliffs, lush greenery and bountiful water fowl. We docked safely at Mario's Marina and this is where the Sorrento has called 'home' for a few months.

After returning from our trip to the States, we have kept busy. Fran is teaching an aquacize class at a little pool nearby, we manage some bar tending for the marina restaurant, and have found an internet cafe if we paddle the dinghy across the river (about a half mile).
Our July 4th here in Guatemala was a lot of fun. We had a pig
roast with the other boaters at the marina, played games such
as the 3-legged race, beer drinking race, egg race, water balloon
tossing contest and even fireworks!! Us Americans know how to
celebrate no matter where in the world we are.
Miss you all
