January 2007
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
After waiting out the hurricane season (which was a mild one, thank goodness) in Venezuela, we sailed back to St. Thomas in mid December. Almost immediately, we joined the work force again and spent the holidays selling diamonds and watches.
Now 2007 has arrived and it is going to be a very exciting year because WE ARE GOING TO BECOME GRANDPARENTS!! Daughter Laura and husband Cri will be presenting us with a grandson in March. Of course, Fran wants to be in Sardinia when Daniel Sebastian Marini arrives. Will keep you posted on these events!
Mar. 1, 2007
Daniel Sebastian Marini has arrived weighing in at 7 pounds 7
ounces. All are well. Fran was in Baltimore , on her way to Sardinia
,when she got the word. She and her sister Joanne spent two weeks
with Laura, Cri and baby before returning to St. Thomas.

Daniel Sebastian Marini - Isn't he a cutie!!

St. Lucia, BWI
We are progressing down island and have had a great
sail so far. A little bumpy in places but good winds and medium
seas.We left from St. Thomas and sailed easterly to St.
Martin.Stayed the night and departed 0300 and headed to Guadelope
and spent the night there after 37 hours at sea. From there we
took off or St. Lucia and made that trip in 18 hours. We
are presently anchoroed offshore in Rodney Bay and will wait for
a slip to come into the marina. We need some engine work done.
Hopefully, not major stuff!!
When all is done with the engine, we hope to go non stop to Isla
Margarita - about a 50 mile sail from here.We are on the windward
side of the island chain, so it should be an easy ride. Will keep
you posted. Meanwhile we will enjoy this pretty island.

Isla Margarita, Venezuela
We departed St. Lucia heading for Isla Margarita.
Well after 53 arduous hours at sea, we're talking autopilot failure,
mechanical not electronic, fuel filters clogged (from the boat
rocking side to side), Dave changed all 4 to the engine and of
course this all happens at night. I also suffered a little 'mal
de mer' from the 8 foot seas hitting us on the side.
It wasn't our best passge by far. We checked the weather every
day before the trip and were led to believe it would be an easy
sail with wind abeam and following seas. Boy, that was a major
miscalculation! We finally arrived at Isla Margarita and
anchored and "crashed" from exhaustion in the protected
bay of Juan Griego (John the Greek).Named after a pirate who sailed
into this bay and was shipwrecked here. The bay has many brightly
painted fishing boats, a pleasant, friendly small town and many
water side restaurants.
Next on the agenda, will be to get the Sorrento on the hard in
Del Caribe Boatyard (just 45 miles more to sail) and we
will keep her there for 6 months. We will then fly to Miami fo
a short visit and then on to Italy so Granny Franny can watch
this grandson grow!
Will keep you posted!
