Thursday Sept. 2
Grenada
We left Carriacou in the Grenadines in mid-August
and had a great sail to Grenada.
Grenada is known as the "isle of spice". Fragrant
spice trees and plants are harvested throughout the island. There
are nutmeg, mace (the redskin around the nut), cocoa, ginger,
cinnamon and vanilla forests. The people are real friendly. We
met many cruisers who leave their boats here and fly "home".
We are exploring the island and hiked to Grand Etang, a
volcanic crater lake and then through the nearby rainforest to
a series of waterfalls, one of which forms a natural pool where
we took a refreshing dip. It left our skin and hair so smooth
and soft.At another falls in the botonical garden, locals would
dive from a 60 ft waterfall into a pool.
When we first arrived in Grenada, we anchored in St.
George's lagoon and then sailed to the southern anchorage
in Prickly Bay. This is a good jump-off point for Trinidad
which will be our next stop.
Chaguaramas Bay, Trinidad
We had a very long and rainy passage. It took 20 hours to go only
80 miles. We had 2-3kts currents against us. We settled in for
the long haul. Upon entering Trinidad, we got hit by a
squall that spun us around and monentarily wrapped the main sail
around the spreader.
"They come on ya fast and they leave ya fast".(movie
Cap't. Ron)
After the squall, we sailed to uninhabited Chacachacare Island,
a former leper colony. Once at anchor, we were approached
by the Trinidad coast guard. They informed us there were two fugitives
on the island, and cautioned us against picking up passengers.
Currently, we are secure at Coral Cove Marina in Chaguaramas
Bay. We put up our A/C and are loving life. We have cable,
H2O and electric included in the rent. We will check out this
very interesting and lovely island and Tobago also before
heading to Venezuela.

Wednesday Sept. 8
Chaguaramas, Trinidad
We are spiderweb tied to the dock here in Trinidad. IVAN came over not far from us but thank God, we were in the marina and were very safe. We had a lots of wind and some rocking and rolling from the storm surge. We faired very well. ENOUGH! of these storms already, it starts getting on your nerves.!!
