IN ACAPULCO

Feb. 18th -We got the propeller fixed after having a 'puller' specifically made for our size shaft. David tried for three days to get the propeller off and finally we went to a boat yard here. They were able to make the puller, get the prop off, get it straightened and replaced all in one day for only $90. US dollars. Wow, those guys were good!

The next day we went inland to the quaint town of Taxco. It is an old silver mining town about 5000 feet up in the hills. We stayed at the Hotel Los Arcos in Taxco and wandered about discovering the town. It felt good just to put jeans and a long sleeve shirt on again!

We returned to the Sorrento in the Bahia de Acapulco and had planned to set sail yesterday, the 17th. However, as we started the engine, we noticed a lot of smoke and soot spewing from the engine room! Not a good sign especially for a crossing of 175 miles south with no stops. SO we found that our muffler pot which sends 400 degree plus water and smoke out the exhaust was cracked. So here we are sanding the pot and hope to have it fixed in a few days. Wish us luck.

STILL IN ACAPULCO

Mar.1st-We have had our share of problems. David got the muffler pot epoxied , and then we discovered a leak in the manifold. David had an extra manifold , so we replaced the old one. Then we turn on the generator to charge the batteries and nothing happens! So we had to dig down and pull out the starter solenoid and we are now trying to get it fixed. Oh, well, Acapulco certainly isn't the worst place to retire!!

If all goes well, and if Fedex deliver our tax papers, we plan to leave here as soon as possible.

Take care and be well
