Still in Colon, Panama
We took a flight to David (pronounced Da veed)- it is Panama's
third city and
the only large town that is not inextricably bound up with the
canal. It
the center of prosperous agricultural area.We spent the night
at Hotel
National. It has a casino, pool and movies theater attached to
the building -
we watched two movies. Catch up time. The next morning we took
a one hr.
bus ride to Boquette (Bo que tay)-with its clear air, gushing
rivers and
cool nights the town is another popular Panamanian retreat. They
were having
a flower festival. There is an extinct volcano, Baru. It was pretty
amazing
and we hiked alot. Our calves are sore. The vistas were fantastic
as we
past many acres of coffee fields and watched the indians harvesting
the
crops. We spent two nights there and really had fun.
We returned yesterday and we are still awaiting another part
for Sorrento.
We had the wrong size autopilot arm sent to us. It was too big.
Well, now
we must wait on the replacement. It has been very windy out at
sea, so we
are fine with just staying put. The good side is my wash dries
in 1/2 hr.
We are going to get some videos and then go to hotel Washington
for a swim
and to read yet another book. A run down hotel, with good restaurants
and
a casino and a pool. They have salsa and jazz on Friday and Saturday
nights.
We don't know when we will leave Colon. But, I hope soon as
everything is
installed. Then we will head up to the isolated and pretty island
of
Providencia 110 miles east, off the coast of Nicaragua.
Will write soon. Love Fran and Dave
