Rum Cay
Just put down anchor here in Rum Cay, and yes, we had a glass of rum to celebrate We are finding the passage so much more difficult than anticipated. We are up against strong trade winds (gusting to 22 kts.), a powerful Antillean current, and 8 foot waves coming out of the south east, the direction in which we are trying to go.

We took off for our next destination on this thorny road to the windward. Again all the elements are against us - 22 knot winds and big seas! We have decided to turn back to Rum Cay to wait out this trough , so our passage south will be delayed.

We just made the crosing from Rum Cay to Crooked Island. It was a very rough passgae - took us 23 hours to go the 66 miles!
We are trying not to get discouraged but we are tired of getting beat up , as well as we have the boat to think about. We still ahve 450 miles to get to Puerto Rico, but we have decided to sail only in good conditions and that will take a long time.
We just checked the weather forecast and it will be blowing for 5 days, so we have made a decision. We are heading back to calmer waters. We will go back to the familiar waters of the Bahamas and then decide what to do from there.

We are back in Nassau and are in a great little anchorage.
The weather is very different this year than last. All the cruisers are talking about it: - a very late spring, winds changing direction daily, and lots of chop in the Bay. So we have been going to some movies and checking out interesting places to see here in Nassau. There is an Outback Restaurant here on the Island!
My new pocketmail is great, so please let's hear from everybody!
