Signing up and paying for the New Shoes Simulation
In order to register, the student will go to the web site http://www.interpretive.com Then click the "First-time student? Click here for a walk-through!" link. About halfway down the next screen there is a link to go to the course code form page. There is a field to enter the Course Code for Marketing 210.
The course code for the Mkt 210 class is UNR10672
After entering the course code, the student will be given a form to fill out, which will then generate a student ID for them and allow them to login. Once they have logged in, they can then click the order tab to enter their access code if they have purchased one from the bookstore or pay us the registration fee directly. The course code is needed only once for the student to receive their ID information for playing the simulation. The ID and Password is automatically mailed to each after he or she has registered.
Students should only enter the course code and fill out their information to register once. After that, they should log in with the user ID and password they receive, not the Course Code. If students don't receive an email with their user ID and password after registering, they should contact the help desk at support@interpretive.com
All students must have submitted payment for the simulation by 10:00 amThursday Feb 2. The first decision for the game is Monday Feb 6. It is NOT sufficient to get an i.d. and password to play the simulation. You will NOT be assigned to a firm/industry until Interpretive Simulations receives your payment for the game by Thursday Sept. 8. If your are not assigned to a firm, then you lose 10 points. You can not be given a firm until the game is over and before it is reset for a new game. Once a new game has been started, then new students can not be added to the game. Every student will have his or her own firm and will compete in an industry against 7 to 9 other firms managed by other students in the class.
The first decision for the game is Monday Feb 6.
All students must have submitted payment for the simulation by Thursday Sept 8. It is NOT sufficient to get an i.d. and a password to play the simulation. You must pay before you can play.
Remember if you have any difficulties accessing or using the game contact Interpretive support people support@interpretive.com
For a speedy response go directly to the support people at Interpretive. Do not contact me if you are having a problem inputting your decisions
into the simulation site. If you are having a problem connecting
to the game, e-mail the support staff at Interpretive Simulations
and send me a copy. The support staff has access to the interpretive
server; we do not.
The biggest issue for most students is finding a simple step by step approach to forecasting the quantity they will sell. Try these simple steps.
Hint #1
If you want an average grade in the game, then make average decisions. To make an average decision, then you must forecast the averages from the past behavior of the industry. To know what the averages have been in your industry, buy the market research! Always buy the market research! Remember you must buy the market research when you are planning for the next period. You can NOT buy the research for a given period after the results for that period have been generated. Plan ahead.
Hint #2
Do not fall behind in product quality (i.e., version number of your product) and always buy the market research!!
I alway keep my
Product Development expense at or above the industry average
Hint #3
In the Home Market I generally stay with the following guidelines
Advertising at or above average
Consumer Promotions at or above average
Sales Force Size at or below average
Dealer Promotions at or below average
Hint #4
In the Domestic Market, I generally stay with the following guidelines
Advertising at or below average
Consumer Promotions at or above average
Sales Force Size at or above average
Dealer Promotions at or below average
Hint #5
As a market grows in size it can handle larger amounts of marketing expenditures
Hint #6
Average Selling Prices tend to drop throughout the game
By the end of the simulation the selling price is usually highest in the Home market and lowest in the Domestic market
